The main public cemetery serving Scotland County is the Memphis Cemetery, located in Jefferson Township along U.S. Highway 136. Founded during the 1800s after the establishment of Scotland County, the cemetery is the final resting place of many early settlers and notable community members. Among those buried there is Mollie Foreman Knott, the wife of former Missouri Attorney General and Kentucky Governor James Proctor Knott.
